A Few Top Tips from the 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year

A huge congratulations to Jason Pollack of Jim’s Pool Care Central Coast for winning the 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year Award! Recently a new Franchisor, Jason has had a busy year this year and we look forward to seeing the growth which is sure to continue.

We had the chance to sit down with Jason and ask him a couple of questions in regards to his Jim’s Pool Care business:

Why attracted you to the Pool Industry?

A: I have always had a liking for pools. We had a pool growing up and many memories were made in and around the pool with family and friends. I wanted to see what I could contribute to the industry that could make a difference and be part of making ongoing memories for my customers, their friends and family.

What benefits you see in being part of the Jim’s Pool Care group?

A: The benefits of being part of the Jim’s Pool Care group is your not only working for yourself but it feels like you have joined a large family network where every member is always happy to help and contribute where they can without hassle or stress.

What was the hardest part for you in starting and then growing a business?

A: The hardest part for me starting my business was stepping outside my comfort zone of having a secure paying career. But with the Jim’s system and the Jim’s Pool Care training program it helped plant the seeds and stepping stones for me to go out and build my business.

What motivates you each day to get out there and grow it?

A: There are a few things that motivate me each day. 1. Security for my family 2. Grow my super so that I can retire comfortably and 3. Continue to show pool owners that there is a premium service choice to choose within the pool service industry.

What things you have done to grow it, ideally mention everything, regardless if it worked short term?

A: I believe that the continued communication and honesty with my clients would be number one.

  • Each season change I make the effort to contact my regular and casual clients either by email or post to inform them of specials or new products on the market.
  • I always ask for referrals as well. Happy customers refer. I ensure that I am always available for leads in my territory and dependant on workload I take as many leads outside my territory as possible.
  • When travelling between jobs I always take the streets that will go through shopping malls or corner shops so that my van can be seen visible.
I frequently touch base with my real estate property managers as well.
  • One may key factor that has proven to work well for my business and is a reason for its growth is my 5 star reviews on google. I always ask for a review. People read them these days and the media is always promoting that you should read reviews before hiring a tradesperson.
What you really like about the business?

A: I really like the fact that I am outdoors and physical during the days and have the ability to change a customer’s pool experience. Beats sitting on chair in an office all day.

How important is customer service to you and your business, and what does that entail?

A: Customer service is paramount and is a survival tool for my business. It can take a little while to build trust with a customer and get some customers, but you can loose them in a heartbeat with poor customer service or mistrust.

How has it helped with your family commitments and flexibility around hours?

A: The great thing about pool care is the flexibility to schedule in jobs, regardless of them being a regular customer or a casual customer to suit what my commitments to family are. Since I started my business I have been able to attend family events , school events and have my weekends to myself if I wanted them.

Where you see yourself/your business in coming years?

A: I see my franchise business continuing to grow and I may at some time in the near future sell it to downsize which will allow me to concentrate on my regional business. With my regional business I would like to see it grow from 7 to 15 franchisees within the next 5 years. I would also like to purchase another region if one was to be available neighbouring my current region.

What are you excited about this year?

A: I am excited to be the franchisor for my region and look forward to expanding it and training new people to become great business people.

Once again, well done to Jason for your awards and all the best for the coming year. If you are interested in finding out more about a Jim’s Pool Care Franchise, follow this *link here* to head over to our dedicated Jim’s Pool Care Franchise website and organize a free info pack today!
